Of coarse the kids will be at their grandparents house on Christmas Eve and at my brothers on Christmas day. We will also be at my aunts house Christmas Eve for a short time which, is something I have done since I was a little kid.
We haven't drove around looking for Christmas lights but, instead of that this year, we are taking a trip with some church family to Huckleberry Railroad. I have heard this place was/is AMAZING and we are really looking forward to the trip! I hear the lights are beautiful and since I am one that gets giddy over Christmas lights... I am really looking forward to it!
We obviously had our big annual "trim the tree" night with Christmas music, hot coco and a special dinner .. this year was tacos!
Christmas at my brothers will have our traditional Christmas lunch. Ham with all the fixings for sandwiches and I make soup. Zuppa Toscana to be exact. It is a copy-cat recipe from Olive Garden. It is my moms favorite soup and, one year I made it as a surprise for her and well, the next year it was requested and .. Tada, a tradition was born! **Side note, it is super easy to make and WAY yummy.. recipe HERE ***
Another of our many Christmas traditions is watching Christmas movies. We enjoy the movie of this time of year. We have collected many over the years and we just love each of them. We watch them all and some several times.
One that is a HUGE favorite around here is Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. This movie was a favorite of mine and my brothers while we were growing up. When my kids got a little older, my mom brought this movie for my kids and they love it as well!
The Story line is that of Emmet and his mom who are very poor because his paw died . They both sign up for a singing contest to buy the other a Christmas present and, well, you have to see it to know the rest!
It is a classic and a Christmas staple at here.
Here is my favorite song in the movie.. "Ain't No Hole in the Washtub"
