In my new house I do not have a dishwasher. It has been some years since I have lived in a house with no dishwasher.
I kind of feel back in the stone ages..
At first, I was sad about this fact. I couldn't imagine how I would keep up with the dishes.. It was as tho I could barely keep up with the dishes when I had a dishwasher.
Since living here however, I have found them "not so bad". In fact, I kind of enjoy them in a weird way. I know, crazy talk... especially since once one of my sisters in law told me that she enjoyed handwashing dishes when she lived in a home with no dishwasher and I thought she was plum CRAZY.
But, I have found the task to have its advantages.
Some days, Anna and I do the dishes together. She gets a real kick out of this and, I enjoy the conversations we have. I enjoy watching her be all "big girl" about her business as a helper in the kitchen. I do hope for HER sake she always likes washing the dishes (ok , who am I kidding for my sake too).
Also, when I do the dishes alone I use it as an opportunity to pray for others. Usually, I pray for family and all those that come to mind and then, I go pew by pew and pray for those in my church.
I have found since finding the positive in handwashing the dishes I no longer dread it. I can not say that I love it..(tho I do love the time with Anna and with the Lord). I can't even say that I like it (tho I do like the time with Anna and with the Lord). But, I CAN say that I don't HATE it anymore and I no longer look at a sink full of dishes in dread!
I am thankful for that. Having a dishwasher may never be in my future again, it is nice that I don't fret on that possibility.
