JCP "free haircuts" in August!
All over the internet I had read about JcPenny having free hair cuts. I was excited.
I always cut my boys hair and Anna hardly ever gets her hair cut and Abby well, she is 3 but I figured a few little baby hairs taken off the bottom couldn't hurt.
I called to make my appointment. I asked about stipulations. I have four kids and I also asked about there being a limit.. I was told no, and no!
YAY so I made the appointment.
We went in excited about a free hair cut. I mean, my aunt owns a beauty shop, when me or my girls require a cut we always go there.. but, I mean, it was FREE right? so why wouldn't I?
I shouldn't have!!!!
First let me address the staff... the woman at the front desk were great. Very sweet ... very friendly...
The beauticians however, not so much.
Every single one of them were complaining about the free kids hair cuts... they would say stuff to me (four different ladies cut my kids hair and each of them *but one* complained to me about it) and they were talking to other customers ... even saying that there should be a limit on how many were allowed to come.
I heard them complain how they were losing money from paying customers, how they were tired of being booked with all these kids ... and on and on and on.
All of these might be true. I am sure they WERE losing money on the kids hair cuts... I would be upset too. But, professionally these ladies should NOT have been speaking about it, especially not with a parent with her kids receiving the hair cut RIGHT THERE.
They did not know my aunt owns a salon and I would more then likely never be back.. for all they knew I could have been looking for a new place... their attitudes about the entire thing was absurd. If they were angry, they should have taken it to the higher ups! The salon was NOT the place.
I did not ask for JCP to give free hair cuts...
Now, let me get to the cuts.
One word AWFUL
My boys have a basic style. I keep the top slightly longer and the sides shorter... so simple that I do it on my own every month because, well it is FREE. It is not perfect when I do it but... it is FREE. But, silly me thought that I would get a professional cut for FREE when I took my kids in.
Anna about a month ago cut her hair to donate to Locks of Love (see that post here ).
One side was slightly longer and so when we went in for her free cut, I asked the lady to ONLY even up the two sides. Anna's hair was short enough.. cute as it was ... but, I did not want it shorter.
I took my three other kids to sit in the waiting room while Anna was being finished up... I was tired of being made feel stupid for being there by the staff... and not being an overly confrontational person...I ducked out.
When Anna walked up to me I could see the look on her face... she was distraught. When my eyes moved up to her hair, I seen why. It was hacked up and MUCH shorter then it was. The side that was slightly longer was now MUCH shorter...
She cried that she looked like a boy... which she does not. She still very much looks like a little girl... just with shorter hair then we as a family prefer.
SO.... what does this Momma do for her hurt kids? I called the company and complained.
It takes a lot for me to do this. I am not a "let me see what I can get from people" kinda gal , despite my taking advantage of the free hair cuts in the first place.
I called and told them that the bad hair cuts were not my concern..I mean, bad hair cuts happen (3 out of four by 4 different stylist probably not too likely at an upscale salon) but the attitude that the woman had that MADE my kids have bad hair cuts was concerning.
That I was made to feel so small by bringing my children there ... ect ect.
I informed them that I did not ask them to give away hair cuts .. they asked ME to come in ...and so on and so on.
My goal was to be sure that these woman did not make anyone else feel so awful and didn't mess up anyone elses kids hair. I had plans to take my kids pictures this week. NOT HAPPENING.
Anyway.... in the end the supervisor called me several times to apologize. She assured me that she would be speaking to these particular woman.
She also asked me to bring the kids in to have their hair fixed.Well, the boys are shaved (no fixing that) and Anna's is short enough so, um no thanks.
I politely declined so she then offered me a gift card to which I at first also declined. I explained that I was not trying to get anything out of this .. just that other people did not have to endure it.
She told me she knew I wasn't but begged me to accept it... I finally did.
I received a 25 dollar gift card in the mail over the weekend.
I will use it to get something for the kids since it is them that has to endure the hair cuts that they do not like until they grow out.
I was pleased with how nice the supervisor was and how much she wanted to fix the problem. Too bad her staff didn't have the skills to please the customers in such a way.
The Moral of the story is... if your aunt owns a beauty shop...do not go elsewhere for a hair cut even if it is free!
:)
