She is Gabes birthday gift. She is a rescue. She is a Sulcata.
Months ago Gabe asked for a Tortoise for his birthday. I inquired about them and found they were too much money for us to spend on a 9th birthday.
We told him that if he wanted one, he would have to save up to get his own.
Still , if Gabe was asked what he wanted, the answer was a tortoise.
I told him that wasn't going to happen..and I meant it until.. My cousin who works at a pet shop sent me a message.
Her pet shop had this little girl for adoption as a rescue for only 30 dollars!!!! That is over 100 dollars off the original price we were given.
I discussed it with Jason and he said YES.. and we woke up the lot and took off to the pet store.
Gabe didn't have any idea as to why we were heading out just that it was a surprise for him.
We got there and revealed his gift... His birthday wish!
He was so excited and so were we but, we were ill prepared.. as I said, we didn't have any intention on getting him a tortoise.
So, we brought her home, made her a temp place to stay till we got her something new.
I went on craigslist that day and found a 55 gallon aquarium for only 25 dollars. Gabe had the money and, he decided he wanted to buy it for her so we did.
We have made due with things we had and slowly we plan to make her home a fun little tortoise paradise.
I cut out the end of the coffee can so she had a place to hide from the heat if need be.
The kids have enjoyed her so much.. they all watch her constantly and are always asking to hold her. I don't allow them to hold her much.. in fact, Gabe only has a couple times and the other kids just once so far. I felt she needed to get used to our home for a week or so. She gets skittish with the around most of the time going into her shell if I am holding her if they come around but, she does come out if I click my tongue at her and she will stick her head out so I can pet her. She loves to be pet.

We love to watch her eat. It is our favorite.
