Math has been a place we have struggled (don't tell my sister in law who is a teacher and LOVES math :P ) ... we haven't found the right fit... this year again we will be trying something new and we will continue to go that route until we find something that sticks. This may mean all of my kids in different math curriculum...or, it may have them all in the same but, for now, we are seeking.
as I said, we have been doing squiggle books... Squiggle books are something that I ran across on the Internet recently. The concept is to draw some sort of line or symbol on the paper and then, I let the kids turn it into what they want.. They looked fun and I felt they kept the creative juices flowing.. And, not to mention an easy and fun way to introduce school back in after sometime off..
The first day I told the kids we were doing school they groaned... then they did it. The next day they came with their notebooks and crayons asking "can we do our books today" they are enjoying it very much as am I. I love to see the fun things they come up with.
Here are some pics from our books... I promise I will not share every single picture they draw till the notebook is full but, I thought that it was neat watching them "get the hang" of it.
Here is the first day. I hadn't yet decided to give them all the same squiggle... (tho did on day two and beyond)
Here is Annas. She turned hers into a balloon string
Abigail wasn't sure what hers was but.. she had fun.
Kaleb turned his into a swimming pool with people
Gabes is a mouth of a ... dog?
The second day I did them all the same shape. I thought it would be more fun. I was right, it is and we have decided to stick with that.
Here is Annas second day. She made her squiggle into grass and added trees.
Abigail made hers into grass as well but, funny thing was, she wasn't in the same room as Anna or I would have been SURE she got the idea from Anna ...
she came up with this all her own.
Kalebs is a basketball hoop with fire around it (don't ask me).
Gabes is a lightning bolt striking down between to skyscrapers.
Day 3 was a simple triangle.
Annas become the ear of pig.
Kalebs, a party hat
An ear of a kitty for Gabe
And, a piece of pizza for Abigail :)
Day four had some crazy shape.. I had NO idea if they could figure any thing out but, they did.
Anna made hers into seaweed.
Abs made hers a "Pool with waves"
*no clue
Kaleb has a clown and the squiggle is the balloon string.
And Gabe (who obviously loves all thing storm related)
made his into a tornado
Today I gave them a backwards L.
here they are hard at work :)
Prince had to check it all out
Kalebs backwards L turned into a sharks fin.
Abigails... a sailboat.. again.. I have no clue. She is pretty creative tho
Annas, a face
And Gabes (sorry sideways) ... well his are two box heads.. lol
we are really enjoying squiggle books and will keep them as a fun filler to break up the homeschooling day... As I said I have enjoyed seeing them be creative and use their imaginations in such a way.
It always helps when they LIKE school.. even if it is just a small part.
