A new bedroom (under 50 dollars!)

Since being married I have never had a bedroom that I loved.  In fact, when we were first married, we lived in a tiny tin can of a trailor and our "room" was a futon in the living room.
I always had these big dreams of a pretty and romantic room. ... A little get-away in our home.. unfortunatly this had never happened due to lack of money, lack of time and most recently, lack of vision.

When we moved in here five years ago.. we used paint we got off the shelf at Home Depot.. ya know, the "Oopsie" paint that no one else wanted... yah, that was us.. I was just trying to save a dime and I thought I could make it work... I couldn't. I just could NOT get inspired with the color that they were ... They were this yellowish color and believe me I LOVE yellow but, remember this was OOOPSIE paint for a reason ;)

So anyway one year at tax time I bougt this comforter set. It was 50 dollars and I LOVED it. It was so pretty and I couldn't wait to use it.
Around that same time Jason had gone on midnights and so, keeping that in mind I came up with this (oh the same)

This was it after I started to prep to paint but you get the point.. the walls were a DARK greyish purple and the ceiling and the trim too. I had dark purple curtians too because, remember my hubby went on midnights and I thought it would not only look good but be good for him trying to sleep too... Midnights didn't last long but, this color did .. and I disliked my room more then ever.
when we moved in here, we had put Anna into the smallest room since, there was ONE girl and TWO boys and no intentions on having anymore kids... ha ha
We had two girls with LOTS Of stuff and so we often tossed around the idea of giving them our room and us taking theirs.. but neither of us wanted to do the work :)
Finally , I had had ENOUGH of the above room and took on the challenge of doing the switch-a -roo.
Since I HAD to paint our old room (the girls NEW room) and since I Was going to have to do several coats to go from DARK GREY to light pink... I decided that I would do something to make the color work in the girls old room (our new one)
Here is the before

I actually really loved the girls room as it was... it was just too small for their needs.
After weeks of shopping on the internet I found a comforter set on clearance at Walmart for 25
dollars.. not to shabby since it came with the sheets, bed skirt, pillow cases and shams.
I then purchased some navy curtians from Walmart for about 15 dollars to match the bedding
The rest of the room? Well it has all be repurposed.. stuff I already had and wasn't using anymore.
Here goes

*here you can see the turtle my hubby got me for my birthday I was also sick with the flu.. I love turtles*

a little about everything... well, I already told you about the comforter and curtains but, the rest went a little something like this.
The barn stars used to be in my living room but, with my current (in the process) living room redo they just didn't fit anymore.. the dresser is new (to us) .. a hand me down from my sister-in -law who was kind enough to think of us ... the mirror was one I used to have in my living room as well but has been out for some time. I spray painted it blue to match the room (.97 cents for the can of paint).
The flower ... ummm picture? wall hanging? whatevery ou want to call it, is something I used to have in my bathroom AND living room at seperate times.. it now fits in with the theme of my bedroom. Two things about that is ... I wish it to be lower... it is higher because one, the paint came off when I took off the girls shelf and two, I am afraid of it getting knocked around while we sleep. I may lower it at some point.. I may find something different all together.. time will tell and for now, it is free and fine.
So, after 11 years and 5 bedroom later I finally have one that I love... I spend a lot of time in my room now, it IS my get away and makes me feel happy to be around all the beautiful blue (my favorite color).

I was told once at a party-lite party of all places that when you buy something.. you want to keep in mind if you can use it in more then one room. This is true. All of the above things have been used in other rooms and now, are in my room. I love change and shaking things up a bit but, I can't afford to always buy new. Keeping this in mind is a great way to change up your decor without breaking your bank :)

**it does look MUCH better in person. These pictures  were taken with a cell phone **
