We spent last week learning facts about Michigan and on Friday we visited our states capitol.
It was a slushy cold wet day but we really had a great time. I had an awesome friend who set the entire thing up so all me and my children had to do was SHOW UP.. how awesome is that?
In Michigan there are a few big name colleges but, the BIG big ones are Michigan State and University of Michigan. They are rivals here in Michigan (which always makes me laugh. I am in the mindset that they are BOTH Michigan teams so if either wins it is a win win but, most do not agree with me there)
At any rate Michigan State is located in Lansing.. our state capitol.
Our first stop was a tour of the MSU bakery. The kids of coarse loved this... I mean, who doesn't love seeing cookies, and bagels and cakes all freshly baked.
We then toured the State Building. This wasn't AS cool tho, the security as the kids put it was TOTALLY high tech. I didn't get any pictures of the security (I wasn't sure if I was allowed) but, it was something straight out of a SiFi movie.. the kids were in awe (as was I).
Then we took the journey to the Capitol Building..
See that pointy building at the end? That would be it!!!
But the closer we got, the more beautiful it is!
The inside did NOT disappoint.
This floor (the second I believe) had glass floor. The tour guide
had the kids lay down and look up... It was AMAZING.
This is what you seen looking up.
I am not sure how many floors there are (my kids got scared on the 4th and wanted to come down.
I don't blame them it was scary)
The blue dot is full of stars. It is SO pretty.
It symbolizes "Reach for the Stars"
You will hear the tour guide mention it
in the video clip below.
This video will give you a better feel
This room had ceilings made with REAL gold.
We were not allowed in it :D
From the Capitol building we had some lunch and then went to
the MSU campus (the bakery was not on campus)
Here we wanted to take the kids for a ride on one of the buses.
The awesome bus driver let us all ride for free and took us for a ride around
campus!
The kids REALLY liked the bus ride and were sad
to see it end..
After that we walked over to the MSU Dairy Store.
Now, I never knew that MSU had such a thing.
That they had cows and got the milk and made the BEST.ICE CREAM.EVER
But they do in fact make the best ice cream ever!!!
We got to go upstairs and see all the machines and watch a video on how it all
worked.
after that we were greeted by some VERY friendly college students
who gave the kids some free samples before we decided on the perfect flavor...
The kids favorite part of the trip? Yes, the ice cream!
It was a crazy snowy day and we were tired and worn out when we got home but we are so so so happy we had the opportunity to go!
THANKS AGAIN CINDY!!!!
Yesterday almost all of the schools were closed for a "snow day" we however were not :)
But, I did allow the kids to go out and play early in the morning before
all the snow melted away. They had a great time and I enjoyed helping them build their snowmen.
Sorry for such picture heavy post. I enjoy blogging about our lives so I can look back later and smile :)
I hope you enjoyed our trip to the Capitol Building as well ....
