Our trip to Detroit (picture heavy)

This past weekend (saturday) , we heard kinda late that "Navy Week" was happening in Downtown  Detroit.

We are a Military loving family. No one in our immediate family is in the Military but, we really do love the Military men and woman who fight for our freedom.
My boys (especially ) love all things Military too.. jets, planes, guns, tanks, ships, helicopters... ect ect
So, when we heard about Navy Week.. we HAD to go. It was a late notice. We were told they closed at 7 and so we headed that way about 5.

I will admit that I haven't done much in Downtown Detroit. Detroit has a pretty bad rap being that is has the second highest crime rate in the country (Flint, another Michigan city is number one.) So, we often avoid it.
But, Detroit has a lot to offer, especially downtown. It is really beautiful and has a lot to do for cheap or FREE.

Here are some of the things we did while down there for Navy week.

First, we seen the sights... totally free and totally amazing. These buildings are so beautiful and so big. This is the Ren Cen. I have actually eaten in it.It is pretty fancy shmancy food.. Back in the day it used to revolve... tho it did not look as tho it was revolving that day.

This is the Ambassador Bridge It bridges Michigan to Canada the kids were excited
to see it... tho now they want to go to Canada even more lol

We got to SEE another country. That there is Canada
It is not everyday you can see another country.
Ok, so if you live in Michigan, you can from several
spots see another Canada  but, still, I think (and so did
my kids) it is pretty neat that it is so close yet, SO
                                              different!

They had dancing fountains. It was a cooler day
but it didn't stop my kids from getting wet
socks and all!

Along the riverwalk we seen all the Navy ships
They were closed so we couldn't tour them
but that didn't matter to the kids, they were
IN AWE of them (so, was I)

The Mayor was on this ship
taking a tour. It was neat to see
especially with all of his secret agents about.

I was in awe of this sky.

After walking around a bit we decided to take the kids on the
People Mover. I would assume that the People
Mover is a lot like the Subway in Ny? At least that is
what I picture. Only it is above ground and
doesn't go as far.

Here is one we seen on our way to go and get on.

On the skywalk to get to the People Mover

Here they are adding their tokens to go in. They were
SO SO excited.

Anna (bless her heart) is afraid of heights.
She LOVED the ride but was holding on
for dear life! (Side Note: her hair is starting to grow FINALLY)

On the People Mover we got to see
some of the "famous" stuff in Detroit

Here is the "Spirit of Detroit" statue.
In Hockey season, he sports a HUGE
Detroit Red Wings Jersey
(gotta take the kids back for that)
None of these pics turned out clear.
I was 1. moving and 2. it was through
thick glass. But, you get the gist.

Detroit has some BEAUTIFUL churches

Here you can see the Detroit opera house
and to the left is Comerica Park. Where the Tigers
Play. Anna LOVES watching
Tigers baseball. (we are NOT
a sports family so it is cute)
Behind Comerica Park
you can see Ford Field where
Our Detroit Lions play.

We also took some time to shake hands with our HEROS
and thank them for their service!

Abby looked so cute in her Sailor dress
I tried to get her to take a picture with some Sailors ( thought
it would be SO cute)  but
as you can see here, she wasn't too hip
She is afraid of men in general.. these men were
fully armed LOL
These guys got a kick out of shyness.

The boys had no problem (but Anna said NOWAY)

They were honored to sign Gabes shirt
This is his third shirt full of Heros signatures.
These men thanked Gabe for making
them feel like a celebrity :)

It was just a fun day. We spent $4.50 dollars (people mover)  for an entire evening of fun
and firsts.

Next year we hope to know about it in enough time to tour the ships.
