First week of school

I decided to start school even tho I have not yet ordered some of my material.
I have enough from years past to get me through things like Math and I compiled my own spelling lists and handwritting drills.

We are doing the Unit study approach as well as Math and reading/writing.
I will be ordering Math U See for Math and Rod and staff for language.

But, because of life we haven't been able to order our curriculum yet.  I know that I am behind the times ... I mean most blogs I have read have had theirs since .. like July... but, that wasn't me... Not this year!

Anyway my intentions were to start school this week all along. I did not want to get off track or make excuses not to start so.. we started "lightly" four days this week using what we had.
It went well.

We start off reading the bible and prayer. We then move on to our unit study and then Math, handwriting and spelling.

On our first day we used some blank news papers that I get from my mom. These are scraps that they are getting rid of and she brings them home.. They come in handy for crafty like stuff .
We decided to make a Creation Newspaper!

                                                            Anna, Gabe, Kaleb
                                                                        Gabes

They each named their newspaper! Annas was "The Creation"  Gabes was "Glory to His Name" and Kalebs was "I love Jesus"
I thought they were quite clever names and I was pleased they came up with them on their own (since I threw out things like "Gabes Gizzett" )

Each page had a different day of creation.

The next day we studied Labor day. Since Labor day is coming up and well here in the States we observe it.

We made a book on Labor Day and facts about it.

                                                               Anna, Gabe, Kaleb
In these books they drew pictures and wrote facts about Labor Day. They drew pictures of jobs they would like to have when they grow up (Gabe wants to be a pilot, Anna wants to work at a candy store and Kaleb wants to ride motorcycles)

We also went with the cousins to the Nature Center for a little field trip!

We took Weds off because I needed a chance to deep clean my kitchen and my intentions were to go four days (taking Friday off) but we took Weds instead!

Yesterday we studied ants and the way they Labor. We talked about how the Bible references ants in Proberbs 6:6  (and that was the handwriting assignment as well)
Then we made a book about Ants.  Facts, and their life cycle.

                                                                   Gabe, Kaleb, Anna

That was a very interesting study. Ants are really neat. And I realized I knew very little about them.

Today we got two sick (and I am on my way) . We stuck with Bible, Spelling (and Spelling test) , handwriting and Math only.
We are spending the the day relaxing with some light housework.
Have a great weekend!
We had a great first week... I am
looking forward to next week!
